HUAWEI has launched the Pura 80 Series, its newest flagship smartphone lineup. The latest models aim to push boundaries in mobile imaging with the introduction of the industry’s first switchable dual telephoto camera and a 1-inch HDR sensor designed for advanced photo and video capture.
From P Series to Pura Series
HUAWEI’s P Series, which first launched in 2012, has been known for camera innovation and stylish design. In 2024, the series was officially renamed to the Pura Series, starting with the Pura 70 lineup. The rebranding reflects a refined focus on imaging and aesthetics. The Pura 80 Series is the latest step in this direction, featuring the Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 80 Pro models.
Dual Telephoto Camera Debuts on Pura 80 Ultra
One of the most notable upgrades is found in the Pura 80 Ultra, which introduces a switchable dual telephoto camera. This system combines a 3.7x mid-telephoto lens and a 9.4x ultra-telephoto lens into one compact unit. It uses a mechanical structure with over 140 internal parts to transition smoothly between focal lengths. The module also features a 1/1.28-inch sensor that boosts light intake, allowing for better clarity and depth in telephoto shots.
According to HUAWEI, this design increases light path efficiency by 129 percent compared to traditional telephoto modules. The setup is aimed at capturing cinematic-style portraits and distant subjects with sharp detail.
Macro and Low-Light Photography Enhanced
For users more interested in close-up photography, the Pura 80 Pro features an Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto Camera. It supports a Super Close Focus distance of 5 centimeters and is equipped with an F2.1 aperture to increase light capture in low-light conditions. This allows users to photograph fine textures and small subjects with improved clarity.
Both models also introduce improvements in wide and main camera systems. The Pura 80 Ultra includes a 1-inch Ultra Lighting HDR Camera that enhances dynamic range and captures finer gradations between light and shadow. The sensor offers a full-well electron capacity of 400,000 electrons per pixel, which is significantly higher than previous models.
Real-Time HDR and Cinematic Video Capabilities
The Pura 80 Ultra makes use of real-time TCG-HDR technology that processes three exposure levels simultaneously. It delivers up to 16 stops of dynamic range, improving image quality across different lighting conditions. The result is more consistent exposure and better color accuracy whether shooting under direct sunlight or in darker environments.
The phone also incorporates an AI Cinematic Engine, which adjusts contrast and tone in video recordings. It helps maintain detail in both bright and shadowed areas of a frame, making video more lifelike and balanced.
Meanwhile, the Pura 80 Pro includes an Ultra Chroma Camera for accurate night photography. It is designed to reproduce color more faithfully and preserve the atmosphere of nighttime scenes.
Refined Design and Rugged Build
The Pura 80 Ultra features a design inspired by jewelry and luxury watches, with a camera module framed by a gold accent ring. It is available in Prestige Gold and Golden Black. The Pura 80 Pro comes in Glazed Red, Glazed White, and Glazed Black, with a texture that mimics ceramic glaze.
In terms of durability, both devices are built to withstand daily wear. The Ultra version uses 2nd Gen Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass, which offers up to 16 times better scratch resistance and 25 times better drop resistance. The Pro variant is reinforced with a similar Kunlun Glass with 20 times enhanced drop resistance. Both models are rated IP69 and IP68 for water and dust protection.
Availability and Early Offers in the Philippines
The HUAWEI Pura 80 Series will be available in the Philippines starting August 2025. Interested customers can preview the devices every Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 PM from July 26 to August 10 in 40 selected HUAWEI Experience Stores.
Those who pay a PHP 500 deposit from July 10 to August 6 can get PHP 3,000 off during final payment from August 7 to 28. Early bird vouchers worth PHP 2,000 will also be offered for both the Ultra and Pro models through Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and the HUAWEI Online Store beginning July 31 or August 7, depending on the platform.
