Lenovo Philippines recently launched its latest laptops in the country including the 8th gen Legion laptop series. Fortunately, we have been given a chance to test out the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i. It is one of Lenovo’s slimmest laptops that offers powerful gaming and content creation features.
We can see from its specifications above how powerful this laptop is to help us finish all our heavy tasks. Let’s see if this is the laptop you should have.
Design and Build QualityÂ
This laptop features a premium and elegant design and is perfect if you don’t want a flashy gaming laptop. Honestly, it doesn’t look like a usual gaming laptop because its design is more of a professional side, you can definitely use it in business meetings.
On its top cover, there’s only a small Lenovo logo at the lower right, while the Legion branding is on the upper left. By the way, its top cover is made of aluminum, that’s why it is very sturdy even if it is very thin.
We can see on its left side the two USB-C Gen 2 ports and one of them supports up to 140W USB Power Delivery. Next to them is its 3.5mm headphone and microphone combo jack. While on the right side, there is a card reader and a privacy e-shutter for its webcam.
The other ports are on the back including the two USB 3.2 Gen 2, ethernet, HDMI, and its charging port.
It also has a full-sized chiclet keyboard with 1.5mm key travel so it’s very nice to type on it and comfortable when you play. This keyboard also has RGB lighting that you can customize using Lenovo Spectrum in the Lenovo Vantage app. Meanwhile, its 75mm x 120mm trackpad is also decent but my palm runs over it when playing games. Maybe it is better if they move the trackpad a little bit to the right.
Having an aluminum top cover and PC+ABS chassis makes the laptop very sturdy. It is also easy to carry anywhere since it is only 21.9mm thick and only weighs 2.54kg. For a gaming laptop, it’s very light and extremely portable.
Display and MultimediaÂ
One of the best features of this gaming laptop is the display. The Lenovo Legion Slim 5i has a 16:10 ratio 16-inch screen with 2.8K resolution and up to 240Hz refresh rate. Its display also supports up to 500nits brightness, 3ms response time, 100% sRGB, and Dolby Vision.
I personally enjoyed its display especially in gaming since I really feel its powerful performance through its high refresh rate.
Its display panel is also calibrated with X-Rite’s Pantone certification, which means you can get accurate colors that can help you in your content creation. Besides, it also has up to VESA DisplayHDR4000 and TÜV Rheinland certification. The display of the Lenovo Legion Slim 5i will level up your experience both in gaming and content creation.
You will surely enjoy watching movies and videos on this gaming laptop since it has 2.8K resolution and the size and aspect ratio of its screen is good.
How about the stereo speakers? At first, I thought its speakers were just next to the power button since there were holes there, but it turned out to be underneath. Its speakers also sound decent both for music and gaming especially since you can adjust it based on the scenario using the Nahimic app.
For sure, you will also use this device for your online meetings or streaming. Luckily, its 1080p built-in webcam can provide decent image quality. Even if it is good in low-light scenarios, it is still better if you use some lighting.
PerformanceÂ
If we talk about performance, this laptop is more than enough. With the help of its up to 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H processor that has a total of 14 cores and 20 threads, and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU, your tasks, even gaming, content creation, or productivity will surely accomplished faster than you think.
Aside from featuring the latest Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics card, this laptop also offers the latest memory technology as it is equipped with up to 32GB DDR5-5200 RAM and supports up to 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD so you don’t have to worry about its multitasking and storage capability.
Just keep in mind that even though it features a Legion ColdFront 5.0 cooling system, expect this laptop to still heat especially when gaming because of its slender form factor. I highly suggest just playing in a room with low ambient temperature, much better if in an air-conditioned room. You should also activate performance mode by pressing Fn + Q to have better performance and high fan speed.
We ran several benchmarks and game tests on this laptop with its three different power modes and the results we got were surprising. I didn’t expect we would get good performance in games even though it was set to the maximum settings they have because it’s just a laptop. I thought that gaming laptops were not that powerful compared to desktops, but I was wrong.
For games, the only heavy game we can try is Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, which managed to run with an average of 85fps at extreme settings. Using Lenovo Vantage, you can also overclock its GPU, I tried it and I got a higher 118fps average. However, due to the high ambient temperature in my room, I encountered some thermal throttling and sometimes frozen screens.
Meanwhile, we get 50-100% more fps in other first-person shooter games like Valorant, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Apex Legends, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and the new Farlight 84.

BatteryÂ
When it comes to battery, it possesses a big up to 80Wh battery capacity and supports up to 230W charging. This large-capacity battery is just right for its powerful hardware. Its latest Rapid Charge Pro technology also allows you to charge the laptop to 50% in just 30 minutes.Â
To test how long its battery life, I tried to watch 1080p movies with display brightness set to 50%, 60hz refresh rate, speaker to 10%, and balance mode, and this laptop lasted me 2 hours and 53 minutes. While gaming with 240Hz and performance mode enabled, it gave me around 1 hour of playtime before it hit 20% battery level.Â
Do take note that in order to enjoy its maximum performance, you need to plug in its power adapter. Meanwhile, tweaking the Lenovo Vantage allows you to have longer battery life especially when you’re just watching a movie or doing some document work.
