Senator Grace Poe expresses positive thinking on the possibility of Starlink becoming our new telco player. Starlink is a satellite internet constellation currently developing by Elon Musk’s SpaceX giving satellite Internet access. Senator Grace Poe is looking forward to this superb innovation turning into another major part of the country’s telecommunications industry.

According to Senator Grace Poe, that the objective of Starlink is to put 12,000 satellites into low Earth orbit. This will provide high speed, low-latency, affordable internet access to any individual who has the exclusive Starlink receiver.

She also considers it as a ”game-changer” by the technology community since it could make internet access better to unserved and underserved areas.

“It’s an exciting possibility. They are offering satellite technology for connectivity,” She said.

The initial expense of SpaceX would at first be higher than existing business sector rates. However, it would turn out to be more affordable over the long run. She mentioned that the cost is very prohibitive for the regular customer because it costs about $500 or PHP 25,000 to set up.

“That’s not necessarily a bad thing because there’s probably a niche market that will be able to afford this technology” She continued. She believes that, when it already has more subscribers in the future, it will decrease its cost.
