    The makings of the OPPO Find X5 Pro’s Futuristic Design

    Aside from the camera, storage, and chipset, design is also one of the characteristics we look at when choosing a smartphone. 

    Most of the available smartphones nowadays have the same look, feel shape, and color, which makes them not unique at all. However, smartphones from OPPO beg to differ since their designers and engineers work hard to develop and achieve stunning unique designs.

    OPPO Find X5 Pro’s timeless, exquisite look

    For example, the OPPO Find X5 Pro’s gorgeous ceramic back wraps beautifully and naturally around the device’s camera housing while having a volcano-like shape to achieve a seamless appearance and feel that no other smartphone can compare.

    Design architecture

    A nature-inspired design

    “There are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature,” said the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. The modest yet beautiful curve in nature, like Gaudi’s majestic architecture, has inspired artists and engineers for millennia. The curvature has also inspired the OPPO Find X Series over the years, distinguishing it from other models.

    Unlike to other smartphones that has unattractive camera island, this OPPO flagship device has smooth and elegant design. This design covers around the lens and forms a striking volcano-like shape.

    OPPO engineers and designers used their previous experiences to further level up the curve in the OPPO Find X5 Pro. They now offer a smartphone that attractively and perfectly combines the camera system while producing energy that is both eye-catching and soft.

    Back design features

    Developing a ceramic-based back

    Moreover, they used a ceramic back to benefit from superior properties of the glass while also providing a great aesthetic appearance. It is made of a microcrystalline material that has been calcined at 1000 degrees Celsius to provide a texture that is twice as strong as glass, reduces fingerprints, and has double heat dissipation.

    Due of its strength, it is a difficult and uncompromising material to deal with. OPPO engineers created a procedure that has seen the ceramic rear panel carved like a work of art to create a precise, organic curved back for the OPPO Find X5 Pro. They used over 2,000 individual control points to generate the flagship device’s smooth and organic curves.

    However, taming the ceramic panel made it very difficult. Because of its toughness, it was difficult to machine, posing a significant challenge in designing the flagship OPPO Find X5 Series’ distinctive curved back appearance. Because OPPO engineers had to overcome other critical challenges, the astonishing feature took six months of research and development in the molding, machining, and polishing processes.

    Using conventional production procedures, for example, resulted in a bigger cap and a less smooth gradient between the ceramic back cover and the camera housing. It was unacceptable to OPPO, so its engineers invented a more accurate machining procedure with two blades aligned at a perfect 90-degree angle.

    A straight-edged cutting line enclosing the sides of the ceramic cover appeared, with obvious cutting lines from the machine blades, giving another problem for OPPO engineers. OPPO developed a novel lift edge polishing procedure to improve the machined edges and offer a smoother, completed look to remedy this problem.

    OPPO understood, however, that deleting the production markings might reduce the amount of ceramic material needed while also making the back panel smaller to match the OPPO Find X5 Pro. As a result, the brand’s engineers chose to precisely polish the ceramic’s edges in many stages, utilizing the world’s first four-axis polishing equipment that employs micron-level diamond powder.

    And the findings were reviewed at equal intervals for accurate adjustments, down to 0.005mm, at each stage. It takes OPPO engineers five days to make a flawlessly machined, polished, and premium ceramic back with a yield of 97 percent rather than 87 percent using such a precise process.

    Find X5 Pro camera bump

    Embodying a precise camera placement, housing

    One of the most difficult difficulties in smartphone design is finding a solution for the camera housing. Typically, smartphones are designed with ugly bumps that do not add excitement or delicacy to their look. 

    While OPPO engineers solved this difficulty with the smooth, volcano-like design of the OPPO Find X5 Series, another challenge remains: how to incorporate the lenses into the housing without unsightly bumps or camera rings.

    Removing the camera lens rings would result in a neater appearance. However, this implies that the lenses must be precisely positioned within the housing. The lens might be damaged if it is put too high. If it is too low, customers will detect a dip in the surface and lose the premium sense of flushness flow.

    OPPO engineers decided that the ideal positioning of the camera lenses under the ceramic casing was 0.10mm, which is the thickness of a human hair. Direct assembly, on the other hand, resulted in the thickness of two hair strands.

    As a solution, the ceramic battery covers and three lenses of the OPPO Find X5 Pro were divided into three groups according on their thickness.

    To attain the proper camera housing thickness, the lenses were matched to their nearest ceramic cover. Then, because manual measurement and grouping takes time and is difficult to manage, OPPO invested millions in developing specialized automated technology that automatically categorizes and matches the lenses and back covers.

    It’s incredible how OPPO achieved perfection in the design of the OPPO Find X5 Pro. So, with all the steps the design went through to attain perfection, it’s difficult not to fall in love with its unique and magnificent appearance.
