ZTE, the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines launched the S.T.A.R. (Skills, Talent, Attitude, and Responsibility) Industry-Academe Linkage (IALP) Program in 2022, with the scholarship acting as its foundation.

The first-ever scholarship program in the Philippines has been launched by ZTE Corporation (0763.HK/000063.SZ), a major worldwide provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions. The program recognizes six outstanding students from popular colleges across the nation. The company’s constant commitment to developing talent and supporting innovation in the world of technology is reflected in this project.
The scholarship is an important part of the business’s Industry-Academy Linkage (IALP) Program, which was launched in 2022 by ZTE, the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The program stands for Skills, Talent, Attitude, and Responsibility.
The main goal of the scholarship, according to Mr. Jin Zhi Chao, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of ZTE Philippines, is to “cultivate emerging talents in telecommunications” as part of the industry’s commitment to advance the digital economy.
Mr. Liu Feng, HR Director of ZTE Philippines, further underlined the significance of this scholarship as a major turning point in the relationship between industry and academia. “ZTE will continue to expand our talent pool through collaborations with various educational institutions in the Philippines,” stated Mr. Liu Feng.
The collaborating universities were overflowing with gratitude, with UST and PUP expressing their deep appreciation for ZTE’s assistance during difficult times.
“This scholarship is particularly beneficial during these challenging times of pandemic and economic crisis. We are sincerely thankful. Initiatives like this are essential for fostering global cooperation and mutual support,” as stated by the UST Vice Rector for Finance and Faculty of Engineering Regent, Rev. Fr. Roberto L. Luanzon, O.P., SThD, DL.
ZTE has been deeply appreciated for their outstanding scholarship assistance by the PUP Office of Scholarship and Financial Assistance (OFSA), Director Ana Publico, PECE, LPT. She noted, “The partnership between ZTE and PUP serves as a beacon of hope for ZTE S.T.A.R. scholars. The profound impact of the scholarship program is evident in the sustained high academic achievement and holistic development of the scholars.”
The program’s transformational effect was demonstrated by the scholarship recipients as they shared their motivational experiences.Â
ZTE-UST scholar Euneez Lara, who is grateful for the opportunity ZTE has given her, called the event a turning point in her life.
Marc Distor, a UST student who is graduating with a scholarship in electrical engineering, expressed great satisfaction that his family’s financial difficulties have been lessened and that they can now concentrate on his educational adventures.Â
Jessie Co, a UST BS Civil Engineering student who was about to graduate, looked forward with hope, wanting to return ZTE’s goodwill with significant contributions to the community and academic success.Â
Another ZTE-PUP scholar, Carlos Gomez, was full of energy as he talked about his goals for the future, which are driven by the motivation ZTE Philippines has given him. The same is true for this PUP student, Rose Dela Cruz, who underlined how the scholarship increased her self-assurance and dedication to success.
Mikhail Camacho, a PUP Electronics Engineering graduate student, talked movingly about the renewed focus and resolve the scholarship gave him.
The latest get-together was a touching celebration of collaboration, skill, and commitment. Through connections with ZTE leadership in the Philippines, it promoted cooperation and understanding between academics and university representatives.
