Smart Communications, Inc. has introduced KiQ (pronounced “kick”), a new mobile brand described as the country’s first fully app-based mobile service. Smart says KiQ is designed to cater to the needs of Gen Z users and is among the few of its kind globally.
KiQ’s main feature is a platform that lets subscribers customize their mobile plan. Through the Slider Interface in the KiQ app, users can adjust their data allocation, decide whether to include calls and texts, and set their preferred plan validity. Subscribers can also choose their own mobile number.
According to Smart Chief Operating Officer Anastacio “Boy” R. Martirez, KiQ aims to give users more control over their mobile experience by allowing them to pay only for the services they want.
How KiQ works
To get started, users can download the KiQ app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. A KiQ eSIM is available for Php 99, and the entire setup — from selecting a plan to choosing a mobile number — can be done within the app.
KiQ also introduces Smart’s QR-less eSIM activation, which removes the need to scan a code sent via email. Subscribers can activate the eSIM directly through the app and their phone’s settings. After completing the one-time eSIM registration, the personalized plan becomes active.
Network prioritization in high-traffic areas
One of KiQ’s features is network prioritization in crowded locations such as concerts, malls, universities, and busy city centers. Smart says this is intended to maintain stable connections, faster browsing, and smooth streaming during peak hours.
The launch of KiQ comes amid growing demand for self-service, digital-first mobile solutions in the Philippines, particularly among younger, tech-oriented users.
The KiQ app is now available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
