Samsung Electronics US will launch a new self-service repair program for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Samsung is constantly providing consumers with more easy and accessible choices for extending the life of their devices, promoting a circular economy, and reducing e-waste. Beginning this summer, Galaxy device users will be able to take product repair into their own hands.
In this program, Samsung is collaborating with iFixit, the largest online repair community. It will initially cover the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series smartphones, as well as the Galaxy Tab S7+. They will also include more devices in the future.
Users of Galaxy devices will be able to replace display assembly, back glass, and charging ports. This is very convenient, right? They may also return used parts to Samsung for responsible recycling.
Ramon Gregory, Senior Vice President of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America said: “At Samsung, we’re creating more ways for consumers to extend the lifespan of our products with premium care experiences,”
He also added that the availability of self-repair will provide their consumers the convenience and more options for sustainable solutions. However, they did not mention battery replacements in the press release. Hopefully, they allow consumers to access it with more convenience.
Moreover, Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit said “We are excited to be consulting with Samsung to help them develop a solution for DIY parts and repair information,” he also added that “Every time you fix a device, you’re helping the planet.”
This program will currently be available in the United States this summer. However, there are no details yet if it will also be available in other countries but we hope so.
